
Central Otago has lots of historic sites from the gold rush days of the 1860's which resulted in European settlement of the area. Stamping batteries like these above are found around sites where quartz mining of gold took place. Lots and lots of little stone huts still exist mostly in a ruined state where miners set up there operations in the most strange of places sometimes
